Scope and summary of activities
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (DITRDC) engaged Strategic Reform to undertake a review of the delivery of the four-year National Freight Data Hub (NFDH) program and develop the strategy for its 14 data pipeline implementation projects. This program engaged with industry and government agencies to receive and provide data products to enhance operational and strategic decision making, resulting in a more efficient freight supply chain in Australia.
Strategic Reform worked with the department to develop the following deliverables:
- Four-year Program Plan – defining the sequence of activities and milestones across the program streams of policy, governance and communications, data projects, technical platform, leadership and engagement
- Data Project Plans – development of 14 individual project plans, which included scope, approach, resourcing, scheduling, and budgeting, to integrate various datasets from governments and industry to the NFDH.
- Platform Requirements – engagement with department staff and industry representatives to develop requirements documentation to design data products for the NFDH.
- Solution Blueprint – development of the IT data architecture to manage several data pipelines and visualisation products by the NFDH.
Outcomes and Benefits
Strategic Reform continues to support the program’s critical decision making through our technology implementation expertise. These outcomes and benefits include:
- Stakeholder engagement to capture evolving data needs from industry and government data users.
- Holding workshops with NFDH stakeholders to clearly articulate purpose, objectives, and scope of projects to develop targeted and realistic project plans.
- Program and project risk and options analysis to ensure decision makers have the right information to steer the NFDH.
- Facilitated collaboration between the NFDH and the departmental ICT Branch to develop a pathway for the platform development and implementation of data products.
